The Controller and Accountant-General’s Department (CAGD), as part of its capacity building programme for Accounting Officers, organized a Nationwide Training in Public Sector Financial Management in the ten former regional capitals. Participants in the newly created regions also joined in the former regional capitals for the training programme.
Seven sessions were held for participants from MDAs in Accra were held at the CAGD Staff Development Centre in Dansoman.
The three-day regional programme, which was designed to train Accounting Officers on current trends in Public Sector Financial Management, as well as to equip them with the requisite skills and knowledge for an efficient service delivery, also attracted other officers from some MDAs and MMDAs.
The official opening was done by the CAG, Mr Kwasi Kwaning Bossompem on 2nd July, 2019 at the CAGD Staff Development Centre in Dansoman, to mark the beginning of the programme. The CAG was also in Secondi/Takoradi to open the session in the Western Region.
Mr Sampson Asare-Fianko DCAG (F&A) was with the team in the Volta Region and also most of the sessions held in Accra.
Topics treated during the training include: The organizational structure of CAGD, Leadership, Public Financial Management, Administrative Procedures and the Code of Conduct of the Ghana Civil Service, Treasury Management, Procurement and Stores Management, Payroll Management, Systems of Control and Operational Documents and Financial Reporting (IPSAS).
Participants also engaged in group exercises at the end of each training session to test their understanding of the knowledge they have acquires. They showed a lot of enthusiasm in the exercise, as they compete to obtain the highest score.
Each participant was awarded a Certificates of Participation at the end of each session.
After the national tour, the training programme finally ended with a session for MMDA Accounting Officers in the Greater Accra Region on 5th December, 2019 at the Staff Development Centre in Dansoman, where the DCAG(A&I), Mr. Wisdom Komla Messan officially closed the session on behalf of the CAG.
